Online insurance quotes provider 4autoinsurancequote.org released a new study on Friday titled "Women Are Bad Drivers - Fact Or Fiction?" The study, which compares traffic violation, accident, and insurance price statistics between men and women, hopes to dispel the long-standing notion that women are bad drivers.

In the study, 4autoinsurancequote.org points out that 80% of all car accidents that are either fatal or produce serious injuries are caused by male drivers. It also says women are 27% less likely than men to cause auto accidents. In 2007, statistics reveal men were involved in 6.1 million car accidents while women were only involved in 4.4 million.

The study goes on to show how traffic violations are higher for male-drivers in almost every single category. Be it reckless driving, failure to yield, seat belt violations, or speeding, men are always cited at a much higher ratio. When it comes to the more serious violations of driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated, male drivers still out number females at a 3.08 to 1 ratio.

"As a man, it's tough to admit," 4autoinsurancequote CEO James Shaffer says, "but if you look at the statistics, females are better drivers... by a long shot! It's almost scary how bad the average American man is at driving. Blame it on whatever you want - high testosterone, higher propensity to take risks, or higher levels of aggression, but the fact remains - men simply make too many mistakes behind the wheel."

4AutoInsuranceQuote.org also looked at average auto insurance prices for men and for women to see if the insurance companies agreed with their hypothesis. In the United States, the average 6 month policy for a man costs $765 while it only costs $698 for women. In Wyoming, for example, the average rate for a female policy is $495 while for a male, this same policy costs $621. 4AutoInsuranceQuote says that these price differences are "ways to award women for being safer drivers."
